RE: Did you buy the right TT???

Yes, we bought the right trailer for us, and for our tow vehicle. Having said that, I did take the folding legs off the dinette table and install post legs (much more stable), and I removed the top bunk from the triple bunks so the top bunk has enough headroom for the kids to sit up and play, read, etc. Also, replaced the factory heated queen mattress with a quality mattress, so that is much more comfortable now.

RE: Gray water black water

The equalizing idea doesn't sound good to me, because getting black water stuff in the gray tank would be quite foul. I start with a couple buckets of fresh water in the black tank, and that keeps matters flowing, so to speak. If the gray tank fills, just dump some of the contents on the ground, as it is not a foul substance.

RE: Rockwood TT Questions

We've had no problems with leaking in our 2306 which has the big front window. And yes, the Rockwood "queen" is a full size that is a couple inches wider, so sheets don't quite fit. We tossed the factory "queen" mattress and bought a quality "full" mattress, and it's a much better place to sleep now ;-)

RE: Dealer going out of business. Do you pick up your trailer?

It depends on how much money he has given to the dealer.
Time to cut his losses.
Being an unsecured creditor in a bankruptcy means he will get NOTHING.
Whatever he does, do not give any more money to the dealer.
If it were me, I'd walk away, even if I had $1000 deposit to lose.

RE: '93 F250 Diesel, 100k Miles?

I took a closer look at it. It's a non-turbo with a 4-speed manual tranny. Trim level is "Custom", but it does have AC and a radio. The white paint is a little thing from the Texas sun, but the interior is sharp thanks to darkly tinted windows and religious use of a fold-out screen inside the windshield. Tires are heavy duty LT with very low miles.
I was thinking of offering $2000, and maybe going up a few hundred more.

'93 F250 Diesel, 100k Miles?

My neighbor is selling his 1993 Ford 3/4 ton, standard cab, long bed, that he bought new and has maintained well. It's got 100k miles.
Any issues with this truck, as it is a pre-PSD diesel? Also, whatd'ya think it's worth? Body is solid, bumper to bumper.

RE: Running the a/c while driving a travel trailer (TT)

There are after-market alternators that can be added to the trunk engine. Tis could be used to charge a pair of stout deep cycle batteries, like the trojan T-105 golf cart batteries. Th batteries could be carried in the bed of the trunk. Then add a 2000 or 3000 watt AC inverter, also mounted in the bed of the truck. Run a 30 amp cord to the trailer. The strategy here is to use the additional alternator as the priary power source through the inverter while driving, but having the batteries in reserve for when the engine revs drop, like when idling, to keep the inverter powered enough to handle the 9kBTU AC unit.

Leave the AC on All Summer?

I've got the TT parked next to the house on a nice pad with an RV outlet wired right there. It's plugged in. Anyway, I was doing some mods over the last few days and I left the AC on so it wasn't too hot in there while working. Anyway, its got me thinking, since it's so dadgum hot here, to leave the AC on and set for 85 degrees or so to keep it from baking.
Is that a good or bad idea?

RE: WD hitch reduce TT tongue weight contribution to GVWR?

As a practical matter, I suggest you look at ultralite trailers, 25 foot long or shorter, and with a trailer GVWR of 5500-pounds or less. The other factor you are going to encounter is engine and transmission performance. The small-block V8 is a low-torque, high rev'ing engine, and the tranny you have is designed for fuel economy. If you decide on a 7000 pound or more trailer, we will see you posting questions about gearing, tranny coolers, and general wear and tear on the Expedition.

RE: WD hitch reduce TT tongue weight contribution to GVWR?

The WD hitch does not reduce the tongue weight, so it doesn't reduce the tongue weight's effect on the tow vehicle GVWR. However, the WD hitch distributes some of the tongue weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle. So, the WD hitch is very useful in controlling rear axle maximum loading, which is commonly an issue when you are pushing the limits of towing.
If you are getting close on the tow vehicle GVWR, it's time to start carrying as much as possible in the trailer, keeping the loading the the tow vehicle as low as possible. Of course, never load people in the trailer.

RE: TT Recommendation?

Slides make a TT heavier, and the Nissan is already stretched.
Take a look at the Rockwood 2306. Queen, bunks, dinnette (no slide) 4700# gross vehicle weight.
BTW, you shouldn't need airbags with a WD hitch. Also, leveling the rear axle with air bags due to a heavy load doesn't overcome the problem if exceeding your rear axle gross load rating. Be careful.

RE: This would be wicked fun!

About the dumbest thing I've ever seen!!!!!! And it's staged ... no way the car could come of that without a crumpled front end. Anyone remember, these trailers all have a solid frame underneath!!!!!
Cheers,
John
Watch the video again. He drove a ramp and went over the TT frame, wheels riding on the floor of the TT.

RE: Seeking advice on tow vehicle

Since these are short hauls, I think a regear to 4.10's and a set of quality LT tires would serve you just fine.
